As the current President of the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS), I am honored to share the remarkable journey of our flagship magazine, the IEEE Power Electronics Magazine. Our magazine, now a cornerstone of the PELS community, began with a vision to enhance member value and bridge the gap in PELS publication services between fundamental research and industry trends.
In 2014, IEEE Power Electronics Magazine was launched with a clear mission: to provide accessible, high-quality content tailored for professionals in the power electronics industry. This initiative was driven by the need for a publication that could offer industry news, practical insights, and updates on society activities in a format that was engaging and easy to understand for anyone with a solid foundation in power electronics.
The magazine’s roots trace back to a simpler beginning as a newsletter. This newsletter aimed to keep our members informed about PELS activities and industry developments, while also delivering technical articles that were less intensive than those found in our more research-focused journals. The positive response from our community highlighted the need for a more comprehensive publication, leading to the evolution of the newsletter into the IEEE Power Electronics Magazine we know today.
