OpenMagnetics: An Online Toolbox for Designing and Simulating Magnetics

magnetics

OpenMagnetics [11] is a free online open-source toolbox to design magnetic components that cover more than 40 different models, covering the simulation of air gap reluctance, temperature-dependent permeability and resistivity, core losses, hysteresis losses, eddy current losses, proximity effect and fringing flux losses, leakage inductance, or temperature rise; with all the code available to users and verified with multiple tests. Insulation coordination standards have been implemented in the tools, so it is able to calculate the necessary distance through insulation, withstand voltage, creepage distance, and clearance to comply with insulation standards. Additionally, it includes algorithms for choosing and integrating magnetics core, bobbin, the calculated insulation, and wires into a full magnetic design. The previous integrated models from the academia are used to calculate the simulated behavior of the device. Finally, a comfortable GUI has been designed so users can easily enter their design requirements, edit the proposed design and review the obtained results.
